State College, Pa. – Thunderstorms could slam parts of central Pennsylvania Thursday afternoon, bringing up to 3 inches of rain and isolated flooding risks, especially along low-lying roads like U.S. Route 322.
According to the National Weather Service in State College, widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop Thursday, with the heaviest activity possible between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Rain may continue into Thursday night, especially in eastern-facing slopes where runoff can quickly overwhelm drainage systems.
Residents in Centre, Clinton, Union, and surrounding counties should prepare for delays on key roadways, and avoid travel during periods of heavy downpours. Drivers are urged to slow down near flood-prone intersections and watch for rising creeks and poor visibility.
While Friday may bring another round of showers and thunderstorms early in the day, drier air begins moving in by evening. Saturday looks partly cloudy and much more pleasant with highs near 78°F — a welcome break from the soggy stretch. Sunday and Monday are expected to stay sunny and mild, with cooler lows in the upper 40s and daytime highs in the low 70s.
