Pittsburgh, PA – Damaging winds and torrential downpours could sweep through western Pennsylvania this afternoon, raising the threat of flash flooding in Pittsburgh and surrounding areas after 3 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, there’s a 100% chance of at least 0.5 inches of rain in downtown Pittsburgh today, with a 63% probability of totals over 1 inch. The heaviest rainfall rates—up to 2 inches per hour—are expected between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., as the risk of severe wind gives way to rapid-onset flooding through 11 p.m. tonight.

Flood and severe weather advisories span a wide area, including Zanesville, OH (68% chance of 1”+), Wheeling, WV (54%), and Morgantown, WV (87%). Winds between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. could cause power outages or downed trees before storms intensify.

Urban areas, low-lying roads, and small streams are most vulnerable. Residents are urged to avoid travel during peak storm hours, never drive through flooded roads, and ensure emergency alerts are enabled.

The Level 1 flood and severe threat covers a broad stretch of the Ohio River Valley. Additional watches or warnings may be issued later today as rainfall intensifies.
