Philadelphia, PA – A surge of warm, dry, and breezy weather will sweep through eastern Pennsylvania on Sunday, raising the risk of fast-moving fires. Philadelphia and surrounding counties are under a special weather statement due to conditions ripe for rapid fire spread, especially near major corridors like I-95 and Route 76.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a southwest wind of 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph will coincide with humidity levels around 30 percent. Highs will reach 83°F in the city and nearby towns like Norristown, Reading, and Doylestown. These dry and windy conditions, coupled with fine fuels on the ground, could ignite fires that spread quickly and become difficult to control.
Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and properly discard cigarettes or other ignition sources. Even small flames could pose major threats under Sunday’s weather setup.
Sunday night will remain mild, with lows around 55°F and continued wind from the southwest. Patchy fog is possible into early Monday.
Looking ahead, Monday brings a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms with a high near 75°F. Tuesday will cool slightly to 57°F with more showers in the morning. Wednesday turns drier and warmer with a high near 54°F, followed by Thursday’s return of rain and highs in the low 70s.
Expect changing conditions through midweek. Stay weather-aware and check PennDOT and local alerts for fire danger and travel updates.
