Philadelphia, Pa. – Strong wind gusts could quickly create hazardous travel conditions across eastern Pennsylvania, especially along major highways and urban corridors during peak commute hours.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, the 8-to-14 day outlook from Friday, March 27 through Thursday, April 2 shows below-normal temperatures across much of the state along with an increased likelihood of strong wind events. Wind gusts could reach 40 to 45 mph, particularly across southeastern Pennsylvania and exposed areas.

In the Philadelphia metro area, including I-95, I-76, and the Schuylkill Expressway, sudden crosswinds may impact high-profile vehicles and create difficult driving conditions. Bridges and elevated roadways are especially vulnerable during stronger gusts.

Farther north, including Allentown, Reading, and the Lehigh Valley, winds may funnel through valleys and open terrain, increasing the risk of isolated power outages where tree limbs and utility lines are exposed. Travel along I-78 and Route 222 could see sudden slowdowns due to gusty conditions.

Wind chills are expected to fall into the upper 20s and low 30s during overnight and early morning hours, adding extra risk for those outdoors. Residents should secure loose outdoor items, charge essential devices, and use caution when traveling in high-wind areas.

This pattern is expected to persist into early April, with additional wind advisories possible as conditions evolve.
