Harrisburg, Pa. – Drivers across central Pennsylvania should expect slowdowns through 9 a.m. Thursday as patchy dense fog reduces visibility on key roadways from State College to Pottsville.
According to the National Weather Service in State College, light winds and clear skies overnight allowed fog to settle in across multiple counties, including Centre, Blair, Lycoming, and Schuylkill. Visibility may drop below a quarter-mile in spots, especially in valleys and along rivers.
PennDOT is urging caution for commuters along Routes 322, 15, and I-99, where fog could linger through the early morning rush. Towns such as Williamsport, Clearfield, and Huntingdon are among the hardest hit. Drivers should use low beams, reduce speed, and allow extra distance between vehicles. School buses and early commercial traffic may also be delayed.
Though conditions will gradually improve after sunrise, fog is expected to persist in shaded areas and low-lying terrain until around 9 a.m. This early-summer fog event is typical for late June in Pennsylvania, especially following cool, calm nights.
Motorists are encouraged to check 511PA for real-time road conditions. More morning fog is possible Friday if overnight conditions remain calm.
