Pottsville, Pa. – Drivers across Schuylkill County are waking up to dangerously low visibility Saturday morning as dense fog blankets the region, making travel along Interstate 81 especially hazardous.
According to the National Weather Service in State College, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. EDT. Visibility has dropped to a quarter-mile or less across much of the county, with fog currently causing major reductions along I-81 and other local routes.
Motorists should expect slow travel during the morning commute, particularly near Pottsville and surrounding areas. Officials urge drivers to use low-beam headlights, reduce speed, and maintain extra distance between vehicles. Allowing additional time to reach your destination is strongly recommended.
This advisory follows a pattern of springtime fog events typical for central Pennsylvania, when cooler overnight temperatures meet warmer morning air. Visibility is expected to gradually improve after 10 a.m., but drivers should remain cautious through late morning.
Further updates will be issued if conditions worsen or the advisory is extended.
