PENNSYLVANIA – Drivers across western Pennsylvania faced dense fog early Friday with visibility dropping below a quarter mile on major roadways. Commuters on I-376 and I-79 experienced slowdowns, and officials urged drivers to keep headlights on and leave extra space between vehicles.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Friday for Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Washington, and surrounding counties. Forecasters warn of slick roads and poor visibility during the morning commute before conditions improve by mid-morning.
The afternoon turns much warmer as sunshine breaks through, sending Pittsburgh’s high to near 84 degrees. By Friday night, another system moves in, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms. Heavy downpours may develop between 3 a.m. and sunrise Saturday, with rainfall totals near a half inch possible.
Saturday stays unsettled, with showers and a few storms likely into the evening. Rain could disrupt outdoor events and weekend travel plans, especially in Pittsburgh and surrounding suburbs. Winds remain light, but brief gusts may accompany stronger storms.
By Sunday, skies clear, offering a cooler, more comfortable finish to the weekend with highs in the low 70s. The region trends dry early next week, with sunny afternoons and highs in the mid to upper 70s Monday through Wednesday.
Residents should use caution driving Friday morning and stay weather-aware heading into Saturday’s storm chances. Additional advisories may be issued if heavy rain develops.
