Pittsburgh, Pa. – A weak cold front pushing into western Pennsylvania Thursday afternoon could bring damaging wind gusts and large hail to communities east of Pittsburgh between 2 and 7 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, storms are expected to remain isolated to scattered across the region, with a marginal Level 1 severe risk in effect. While most areas will avoid widespread activity, a few stronger cells could form with enough intensity to produce large hail and damaging winds. Flash flooding is not anticipated due to limited moisture.
Cities like Greensburg, Indiana, and Johnstown should stay weather-aware during the afternoon commute, especially in open areas or near hills where winds may accelerate. While the threat is limited, any isolated storm could turn severe quickly.
Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items, monitor live radar updates, and stay indoors if lightning or hail is observed. Drivers should prepare for slick road conditions or reduced visibility in heavier downpours.
More updates will be issued if the severe risk increases. Thursday’s alert currently remains in effect through 7 p.m., with improving conditions expected into the evening.
