Pittsburgh, Pa. – Showers and thunderstorms could sweep across western Pennsylvania Monday afternoon, bringing damaging winds and localized flash flooding between 2 and 8 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a trough moving through the region is expected to trigger scattered storms, some of which could produce heavy downpours. The risk level remains marginal, but any storms that develop could quickly overwhelm storm drains and impact visibility during peak travel hours.

Cities including Pittsburgh, Washington, New Castle, and Uniontown may see strong wind gusts capable of downing small tree limbs or power lines. Brief road ponding is also possible, especially on Route 22, I-376, and I-79. Commuters and outdoor event organizers are urged to monitor alerts and consider backup plans for Monday afternoon.

While confidence in widespread severe weather remains low, officials stress the importance of having multiple ways to receive warnings. Residents should avoid driving through flooded roads and secure outdoor objects that could blow away in gusty winds.

Storm chances diminish after 8 p.m., but updates will be issued if the threat intensifies. More widespread storms are possible later this week.
