Harrisburg, Pa. – Scattered showers and sweltering conditions will persist across the Mid-Atlantic through Tuesday, but a major shift is on the horizon as a cold front arrives by Wednesday afternoon, potentially drenching Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and parts of New York with widespread rain.

According to the National Weather Service’s Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center, over 2 inches of rain fell in parts of Pennsylvania and Virginia on Sunday, with lighter totals scattered elsewhere. Rainfall estimates show another round of light showers—generally under a quarter inch—expected through Tuesday night.

The approaching cold front will intensify moisture across the region midweek, increasing the threat for heavier rainfall, localized flooding, and reduced visibility on roadways such as I-76, I-80, and I-95. Cities including Philadelphia, Scranton, and Binghamton should prepare for possible evening commute delays Wednesday.

Temperatures will remain elevated ahead of the front, adding to heat stress concerns. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat hours, and secure outdoor items ahead of the midweek rain.

Widespread rainfall is expected to peak late Wednesday into early Thursday. More alerts could be issued as this system evolves.
