Philadelphia, Pa. – Southeastern Pennsylvania heads into Sunday with a coastal flood advisory in place for Philadelphia until 6 a.m., bringing concerns for drivers and neighborhoods near waterways. Low-lying areas and stretches of I-95 could see standing water during the early morning hours.

According to the National Weather Service, tides will peak higher than normal overnight as Hurricane Erin churns offshore, pushing water inland. While the storm remains distant, the combination of lunar tides and persistent winds is enough to cause nuisance flooding along the Delaware River and nearby creeks. Residents should avoid parking near flood-prone spots and plan alternate routes for morning travel.

Sunday itself starts mostly sunny, but by afternoon a slight chance of showers builds, followed by a stronger risk of thunderstorms Sunday night. Heavy downpours may create localized flash flooding, with rainfall totals between a tenth and a quarter inch possible.

Monday brings another round of scattered storms, with highs near 83. Conditions gradually improve into midweek, but cooler mornings and clear nights will dominate after Tuesday.

Travelers should stay alert, especially on major roadways such as I-95 and I-76, where ponding water may slow traffic. Keep mobile devices charged and check alerts before leaving home.

Warnings could be extended if coastal flooding worsens or if Sunday night storms turn severe.
