Harrisburg, Pennsylvania – Central and southern Pennsylvania are beginning to show signs of potential winter weather as a large storm system expands north along the East Coast this weekend. While the highest impacts remain farther south, a low but growing chance of wintry conditions could affect parts of the state from Saturday into Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service, portions of central and southern Pennsylvania now show up to a 20% probability of at least minor winter weather impacts late in the weekend. Forecasters note that the region sits near the northern edge of the system, where small shifts in storm track could bring light snow or a brief period of mixed precipitation.

If wintry precipitation develops, impacts would likely be limited but still capable of creating slick travel conditions, especially overnight. Roadways such as I-76, I-81, I-83, and portions of U.S. 15 and U.S. 30 could see patchy slick spots on bridges and untreated surfaces if temperatures dip near freezing.

PennDOT officials encourage drivers to remain cautious and monitor conditions closely, particularly those with weekend travel plans. Allowing extra travel time and checking road conditions before heading out are recommended precautions given the uncertainty.

Forecasters stress that confidence remains low at this stage, but the risk could increase if the storm strengthens or shifts farther north. Additional updates and possible advisories may be issued as the system evolves through Sunday.
