Pennsylvania – Cold air bites hard across western Pennsylvania this morning, turning breath into fog and pavement into glass. Snow waits just over the horizon, with a powerful winter system lining up to hit fast and linger.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect this morning as wind chills dip between 10 and 15 degrees below zero. Later today, attention shifts to a Winter Storm Warning that begins this evening and continues into Monday. Snow totals between 9 and 14 inches are expected across much of western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, and northern West Virginia.

In Pittsburgh, temperatures hover near zero early, then slowly climb into the teens. Snow develops later, becoming heavy at times Sunday. Winds increase, reducing visibility and pushing snow into untreated roads. Travel could become very difficult to impossible, especially during the Monday morning commute.

Drivers along I-79, I-376, and I-80 should plan extra time or delay travel if possible. Flash freezing remains a major concern as any melting during daylight refreezes quickly after sunset. Even plowed roads may turn slick without warning.

Residents are urged to limit travel, charge devices, and check heating systems. Keep extra blankets, food, and water ready. If you must travel, carry emergency supplies and let someone know your route.

Looking ahead to midweek, snow chances ease but cold remains locked in. Temperatures stay below normal through Friday, with occasional snow showers and icy mornings likely.

Conditions will continue to evolve through Monday. Additional advisories may follow as snowfall bands shift.
