Pennsylvania — Sunshine spills across the hills of central Pennsylvania this morning, and the air feels surprisingly mild for early March. Jackets may come off quickly today as spring warmth builds across State College and surrounding valleys.
Temperatures will climb to around 67°F today, with light southwest winds and clear skies creating one of the warmest days so far this month. Sidewalks around Penn State and downtown State College will feel almost like early spring.
Drivers along Interstate 80 and Route 322 should enjoy smooth travel through the day. Visibility remains excellent, and dry pavement keeps the morning commute easy.
Even warmer air arrives next. Temperatures surge toward 73°F Tuesday, continuing the early March warm spell across central Pennsylvania. Skies remain mostly sunny with only a slight chance of afternoon showers.
However, the calm stretch will not last.
Meteorologists are now tracking a developing storm system expected to move into the region by Wednesday, March 11. Rain showers will expand across State College through the day, and a few thunderstorms could develop during the afternoon.
Wet roads and reduced visibility may slow travel during the evening commute. Drivers should plan extra time if rain becomes steady.
The bigger change arrives later Wednesday night as colder air rushes back into Pennsylvania. Rain will likely mix with and change to snow showers into Thursday morning.
Accumulation appears limited for now, but temperatures near freezing may create slushy or slick spots on bridges and untreated roads. Rapid temperature drops could also trigger brief flash-freeze conditions in shaded areas.
Cooler air settles in late week as the storm exits, though the pattern remains active with occasional rain or snow showers possible.
