Altoona, PA – Residents in parts of south-central Pennsylvania should expect a windy and potentially hazardous Sunday as a Wind Advisory goes into effect from 6 AM to 6 PM, according to the National Weather Service in State College.

NWS forecasters say west winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts reaching 50 mph, will impact Bedford, Blair, Cambria and Somerset counties throughout the day. The advisory includes the cities of Johnstown, Altoona, Somerset and Bedford, where the combination of elevation and funneling along the Allegheny ridges may enhance wind speeds.

According to the Weather Service, the period of strongest winds is expected between mid-morning and mid-afternoon as colder air surges into the region behind a departing system. These winds may blow around unsecured outdoor objects, snap smaller tree limbs and create the potential for isolated power outages, especially in wooded areas.

Drivers traveling along exposed highways or mountain passes early Sunday should use caution, particularly if operating high-profile vehicles more susceptible to strong crosswinds. Residents are urged to secure outdoor décor, garbage bins, patio items and any loose equipment before the advisory begins.

While the winds will diminish after sunset, breezy conditions may persist into the evening. The Weather Service encourages residents to monitor updated forecasts and use caution during any outdoor activity.
