Pittsburgh, PA – Drivers across western Pennsylvania could encounter sudden downpours and wind gusts topping 50 mph as early as 2 p.m. Friday, with storms intensifying during the evening commute and continuing into the night.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a passing cold front will trigger two rounds of thunderstorms, first between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., followed by a stronger line from 5 p.m. through midnight. The primary risk zone sits south of Interstate 80, where conditions support damaging wind, large hail, and a low-end tornado threat.

Communities including Pittsburgh, Washington, Uniontown, and Morgantown face the highest storm coverage after 5 p.m., when rain chances spike to 65% in some areas. Roads like I-376, I-79, and Route 22 could see reduced visibility under 1 mile during heavier cells, especially near peak travel hours.

Farther north toward Butler and Clarion, storm chances remain lower but still capable of brief impacts. Emergency managers urge residents to keep phones charged and enable weather alerts, as warnings may be issued with little lead time.

This setup remains a marginal risk, meaning storms will be scattered but capable of producing isolated severe impacts. The threat tapers off after midnight, though additional updates or alerts may be issued if storms organize more ശക്തfully late Friday.
