Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – Drivers and evening commuters across eastern Pennsylvania could face sudden downpours, 60 mph wind gusts, and bursts of hail as storms move in between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Philadelphia/Mount Holly, scattered severe thunderstorms are expected to develop in western and central Pennsylvania before pushing east into the I-95 corridor late this afternoon and evening. The primary threats include wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail reaching 1 inch in diameter.

The highest impact zone includes cities like Reading, Allentown, and Philadelphia, where storms may arrive during peak travel hours. Roads such as I-76, I-95, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike could see rapid visibility drops and ponding water, increasing the risk of slowdowns and minor accidents. Areas farther south, including Wilmington and parts of South Jersey, remain under a lower but still active storm risk.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor objects, monitor alerts, and ensure phones are charged in case of isolated power outages. If thunder is heard, move indoors immediately.

Storms are expected to exit the region later Sunday night, but additional updates or warnings may be issued as conditions evolve.
