Cleveland, Ohio – Drivers across northwest Pennsylvania could encounter snow-covered highways and sudden drops in visibility by late tonight as lake-effect bands strengthen off Lake Erie.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from this evening through Tuesday morning for Northern Erie and Southern Erie counties, including Erie, Union City, Corry and Edinboro. Forecasters say heavy lake-effect snow may produce 6 inches or more of accumulation, with the most persistent bands expected late tonight through Monday.
Light snow will fall across the region today with minimal impact. Conditions are expected to deteriorate this evening as colder air moves over the lake and enhances snowfall rates. Periods of moderate to heavy snow could create slick stretches along I-90, I-79 and Route 6, especially during the Monday morning and evening commutes.
Localized heavier bands may lead to rapidly changing road conditions, particularly north of I-90 and across higher terrain inland. Motorists should allow extra travel time, reduce speed and keep emergency supplies in their vehicles.
Snow showers may linger into Tuesday morning before gradually tapering, though additional advisories or warnings could be issued if bands intensify.
