Erie, Pennsylvania – Drivers across southern Erie County face snow-covered roads and reduced visibility as lake-enhanced bands drop up to 5 inches of accumulation before daybreak Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Southern Erie County until 7 a.m. Tuesday. An additional 3 to 5 inches of snow is expected, with periods of moderate to heavy snowfall intensifying this afternoon and continuing through the evening.
Communities including Union City, Corry and Edinboro will likely see the steadiest snowfall during the late afternoon and evening commute. Snow will accumulate quickly on untreated roads, bridges and overpasses, creating slick conditions along Route 6, Route 19 and stretches of Interstate 90. Visibility may drop below a half-mile at times in heavier bursts.
PennDOT urges motorists to delay unnecessary travel and monitor 511PA for live roadway updates. If travel is unavoidable, officials recommend keeping an emergency kit with food, water and a flashlight inside your vehicle in case traffic slows or becomes stranded.
Snowfall rates will ease toward early Tuesday morning, but slippery roads could linger into the morning commute. Warnings remain in effect until 7 a.m., and additional advisories are possible if bands persist.
