Pittsburgh, PA – Western Pennsylvania braces for its first true winter commute of December as steady snow spreads across the region tonight into Tuesday, coating roads and slowing traffic from Pittsburgh to Beaver and Butler Counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from midnight until 1 p.m. Tuesday, calling for 2 to 5 inches of snow across much of southwest Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, and the northern panhandle of West Virginia. The snow will be heaviest between 4 a.m. and 10 a.m., creating hazardous travel conditions just as many residents hit the roads.
Visibility may drop sharply at times, and untreated surfaces — including I-79, I-376, and U.S. 22 — will quickly become slick. Commuters should plan extra travel time and allow greater stopping distances through mid-morning. By early afternoon, precipitation will taper off, though some melting followed by refreezing could cause black ice on shaded roadways into Tuesday night.
After the snow exits, skies gradually clear and temperatures dip into the low 20s, locking in a cold pattern that will persist into the second half of the week. Sunshine returns Wednesday, but highs will remain in the mid-30s, keeping that early winter chill in place.
5-Day Outlook (Pittsburgh, PA):

- Tuesday Night: Cloudy, low 23°F.
- Wednesday: Mostly sunny, high 36°F.
- Thursday: Chance of snow showers. High 33°F.
