Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – A soaking round of rain is set to move into the Delaware Valley tonight, bringing around 1 to 1.5 inches of rainfall to the Philadelphia metro by Tuesday morning, with heavier totals north and west of the city.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, much of Sunday will remain dry before rain spreads into eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware Sunday night and continues through early Tuesday. The steadiest rainfall is expected overnight into Monday.
In the Philadelphia metro area, totals of 1 to 1.5 inches are expected, including communities along the I-95 corridor, the Schuylkill Expressway, and surrounding suburbs such as King of Prussia and Norristown. The persistent rain could lead to ponding on roadways during periods of heavier showers.
Heavier totals are likely across parts of eastern Pennsylvania including Allentown, Reading, and the Mount Pocono region, where rainfall amounts could reach 1.5 to 2 inches, with isolated spots near 2 to 3 inches in the higher terrain.
Across southern New Jersey and Delaware, including Atlantic City, Cape May, Dover, and Bethany Beach, rainfall totals are expected to range between 0.5 and 1 inch, slightly lower than areas farther inland.
Officials advise drivers to slow down during heavier rain bands and watch for water collecting on low-lying roadways. Rain should gradually taper off by early Tuesday morning, though additional updates may be issued if heavier rainfall develops across eastern Pennsylvania.
