Pennsylvania – Clouds thicken and the air turns heavy as rain and possible thunderstorms push into Pittsburgh by late Thursday, setting up slick roads and a sharp temperature drop that could freeze leftover moisture by Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures climb to 72°F Thursday with scattered showers developing by late morning. Rain becomes widespread Thursday night with a 100% chance of precipitation and gusts reaching 25 mph. Rainfall totals may reach up to three-quarters of an inch, especially in heavier bursts.

Drivers across Allegheny County should expect slower travel on I-376, I-79, and Route 28 Thursday evening into early Friday. Wet pavement and reduced visibility will create hazardous conditions, particularly during peak commuting hours. Conditions may deteriorate quickly after sunset as steadier rain moves in.

Rain tapers by Friday afternoon, but colder air quickly follows. Highs reach near 50°F before dropping sharply to around 26°F by late night. That rapid cooldown raises the risk of flash freezing early Saturday, especially on bridges and untreated surfaces where water lingers.

Saturday brings sunshine but a colder feel, with highs near 48°F and icy patches possible early in the day. By Sunday, temperatures rebound into the upper 50s with mostly sunny skies, offering a calmer and more comfortable finish to the weekend.

Looking ahead, a warming trend builds early next week, with highs returning to the 60s by Monday and near 70°F by Tuesday, signaling a stronger push toward spring across western Pennsylvania.

Plan ahead for Thursday night travel and stay alert for icy spots this weekend. Are roads already slick in your area?
