WARREN, Pa. – Heavy lake-effect snow will intensify across northwest Pennsylvania through Monday night, leading to hazardous travel and significant snowfall in Warren County. Snow totals of 6 inches or more are expected by early Tuesday, with localized higher amounts possible where lake bands persist.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, a Lake Effect Snow Warning is in effect from 10 a.m. Monday through 1 p.m. Tuesday. Light snow will develop during the day Monday, producing 1 to 3 inches by sunset, before heavier snow bands organize overnight and continue through Tuesday morning.

Forecasters warn that visibility may drop suddenly within stronger snow bands, especially along U.S. Route 6 and PA 59. The heaviest bursts of snow are expected late Monday night, making the Tuesday morning commute especially treacherous. Motorists should allow extra travel time and avoid unnecessary driving where conditions deteriorate rapidly.

Winds from the northwest will enhance the lake-effect setup while producing occasional blowing snow. Residents are urged to keep an emergency kit in their vehicles and prepare for brief whiteout conditions at times. The snow is expected to taper gradually by midday Tuesday as winds shift and moisture decreases.
