Harrisburg, PA – Travelers across Pennsylvania should prepare for a wet and slow Thanksgiving Eve as a widespread rainstorm moves up the East Coast, according to new national forecasts issued by the Weather Prediction Center.
According to the WPC, rain will overspread much of Pennsylvania early Wednesday, affecting major travel routes including I-76, I-80, I-81, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Rain is expected to be steady through the afternoon, with heavier pockets possible around Philadelphia, Harrisburg, and the I-95 corridor. With millions traveling ahead of the holiday, drivers should expect delays and reduced visibility throughout the day.
Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 27, 2025) brings a shift toward colder air behind the departing storm system. Most of Pennsylvania will dry out, but temperatures will remain cool — mainly in the 30s and low 40s statewide. Northern and western parts of the state, including Erie, Bradford, and areas near the Allegheny Plateau, may see scattered snow showers or flurries. No major accumulation is expected, but the chilly air may leave some untreated roads slick early in the day.
By Black Friday (November 28, 2025), the lake-effect machine strengthens across the eastern Great Lakes. While the heaviest snow bands remain oriented toward New York, northwestern Pennsylvania could see bursts of snow off Lake Erie, especially along I-90 north of Erie. Central and eastern Pennsylvania will stay cold and breezy, with highs stuck in the upper 30s.
Holiday travelers should plan for wet roads Wednesday, cold breezes Thursday, and light snow chances Friday, especially in far northern counties.
