Pennsylvania Traffic Alert: Forbes and Fifth Avenues in Oakland Closed This Weekend for University Line Construction

Oakland, PA – Pittsburgh Regional Transit announced that parts of both Forbes and Fifth avenues will be closed for construction this weekend. Work on Forbes Avenue begins today at 8 p.m. and continues until 5 p.m. Saturday. On Fifth Avenue, construction between Chesterfield Road and Craft Avenue will take place from 8 p.m. today to 7 p.m. Sunday.

The 58 Greenfield and 28X Airport Shuttle buses will detour to the Fifth Avenue bus lane while work is underway on Forbes Avenue. Flaggers will be onsite to direct traffic. 

The University Line project is designed to connect Downtown Pittsburgh to Oakland and Uptown, reducing travel time between stops. The project aims to improve reliability for bus routes and provide thousands of rides with easier access to world class university resources.

The first phase of the project began on Sept. 13, 2023, and included building dedicated bus lanes, sidewalks, and curbs in downtown. Phase one of the project will be completed by the end of the summer. 

The second phase, which began in January and focuses on the Uptown and Oakland areas. Phase two is scheduled for completion in 2027.
