Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Severe storms are intensifying across western Pennsylvania this evening, with a Tornado Watch in effect for a dozen counties through 11 p.m., raising the risk of fast-moving, dangerous weather.
According to the Storm Prediction Center, Tornado Watch 75 includes Allegheny, Westmoreland, Washington, Butler, Erie, and surrounding counties, covering major population centers like Pittsburgh and Erie. Key travel routes including I-76, I-79, and I-90 are within the watch area.
Storms moving in from Ohio are expected to strengthen through the evening, bringing the potential for a few tornadoes, wind gusts up to 80 mph, and hail up to 2 inches in diameter. The greatest threat window will occur through late evening as storms organize into stronger lines pushing east.
Communities from Beaver and Lawrence counties north into Mercer and Crawford counties could see rapid changes in conditions, including sudden downpours and reduced visibility.
Residents are urged to stay weather aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Be prepared to move to shelter immediately if a warning is issued.
The tornado threat continues through 11 p.m., with additional warnings likely as storms track east across western Pennsylvania tonight.
