State College, Pa. – Scorching heat and afternoon storms will grip central Pennsylvania on Wednesday, July 30, with temperatures feeling as high as 104°.
According to the National Weather Service in State College, a Heat Advisory remains in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday across Centre, Blair, Lycoming, and 20 other counties. The combination of extreme humidity and heat will elevate the risk of heat-related illnesses — especially for residents without air conditioning or proper hydration.
Cities including Huntingdon, Lewistown, Harrisburg, and Altoona should brace for a one-two punch of hot, muggy conditions followed by scattered thunderstorms starting after 2 p.m. A 30% chance of storms during the day rises to 70% by nightfall, with rain totals possibly exceeding a half inch. Winds may gust up to 30 mph in stronger cells.
Drivers on I-99 and US-322 should stay alert for hydroplaning conditions and reduced visibility late Wednesday. Flash flooding in low-lying areas and poor drainage zones is possible.
