Pittsburgh, PA – Dangerous heat and sudden afternoon storms could bring flash flooding and damaging winds across western Pennsylvania by midday Friday.
According to the National Weather Service, a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Friday, with heat indices reaching 100° between noon and 6 p.m. The greatest risk spans Allegheny, Washington, Beaver, and surrounding counties. Scattered thunderstorms may develop by late morning and intensify throughout the afternoon.
Drivers along I-376, Route 28, and I-79 should expect slowdowns, ponding, and possible lane closures due to heavy rainfall and wind gusts. Localized flash flooding could occur quickly during downpours, especially in low-lying or poor drainage areas.
Outdoor events and strenuous activities should be avoided during peak heat hours. The NWS advises staying in air-conditioned spaces, hydrating frequently, and checking on vulnerable neighbors.
On Saturday, another round of thunderstorms is likely after 2 p.m. with highs around 88°. Storms continue Saturday night into Sunday morning before gradually clearing out. Sunday will be hot, sunny, and near 89°—a brief break before rain returns Monday.
