State College, Pennsylvania – A dangerous wave of extreme heat will continue to hammer central Pennsylvania on Tuesday, with heat index values climbing past 100° and little overnight relief for those without air conditioning.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, a Heat Advisory remains in effect through 8 p.m. Wednesday for Fulton, Huntingdon, Southern Centre, and Southern Clinton counties. Heat index values may reach up to 104° in urban valley areas. Cities like Lock Haven, McConnellsburg, Mount Union, and State College will be especially affected.

Residents are urged to avoid strenuous activity between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., stay hydrated, and seek air-conditioned shelter. The advisory warns that prolonged exposure to high heat and humidity can lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke, particularly for seniors, children, and outdoor workers. Overnight lows in the mid-70s will provide little recovery time.

Travelers along Route 322, Route 45, and I-99 should take caution and ensure their vehicles are equipped with water and functioning A/C. Outdoor pets must have access to shade and fresh water. Utilities may see elevated demand due to widespread air conditioner use.

This week marks one of the most intense heat waves of the summer so far, with State College hitting 95° on both Monday and Tuesday. Relief arrives midweek as scattered thunderstorms roll in by late Wednesday, offering limited cooling.

🔔 Heat alerts remain active until 8 p.m. Wednesday. Stay tuned to NWS State College for updates.
