State College, Pennsylvania – Scorching heat and strong thunderstorms will move into central Pennsylvania by late Tuesday morning, pushing heat index values near 100°F and triggering a risk of flash flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, a summer weather alert remains in effect as heat builds through midday Tuesday. Afternoon highs will climb to 92°F in State College, with storm chances increasing sharply after 11 a.m. Thunderstorms may bring heavy rain and strong wind gusts, especially near major routes like U.S. Route 322 and I-99, where runoff could lead to minor flash flooding.

While widespread severe weather isn’t expected, even isolated storms could disrupt afternoon travel and pose health risks for those without access to cooling or hydration. Local emergency officials advise residents to limit outdoor activity, check on elderly neighbors, and avoid driving through flooded roads.

On Wednesday, temperatures remain high — peaking near 86°F — but storm chances drop to just 20%. Another round of thunderstorms is likely Thursday and Friday, keeping the pattern unsettled through week’s end.
