Henry Clay Township, PA – Pennsylvania State Police are renewing calls for information in a decades-old homicide, offering a $5,000 reward for tips that lead to solving the case of a fatal 1980 road rage shooting in Fayette County.
According to Pennsylvania State Police Troop B – Uniontown, 26-year-old Donald Roy Wilt had just finished dinner with his wife at a restaurant in the Grantsville area on Aug. 30, 1980, when he drove west on Route 40 toward Henry Clay Township in his 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle. Investigators said Wilt became involved in an apparent road rage incident with the driver of a white Chrysler Cordoba.
Witnesses told police that something struck Wilt’s windshield, causing it to crack. Wilt was seen leaning out of his car window yelling toward the Cordoba at several points along Route 40. During the confrontation, the driver of the Cordoba allegedly fired at Wilt.
Wilt’s vehicle then veered off the road, striking mailboxes and a tree before coming to a stop. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said the case remains unsolved more than four decades later.
Investigators are urging anyone with information to contact PSP Uniontown Station at 724-439-7111, the PSP Tips Line at 1-800-472-8477, or submit a tip online at www.p3tips.com.
