Pittsburgh, PA – A widespread winter storm dropped significant snowfall across Pennsylvania, with some communities reporting 10 to 12 inches by Sunday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, preliminary snowfall analysis covering 7 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Sunday shows the heaviest accumulation across southern and southeastern Pennsylvania, while lighter—but still impactful—snow totals were observed farther north and west.

Snowfall amounts generally ranged from 4 to 6 inches across western and northern Pennsylvania, including areas near Erie, Bradford, and Butler. Higher totals of 6 to 8 inches were common through central Pennsylvania, while parts of southern and eastern counties measured 8 to 12 inches, with isolated reports exceeding 11 inches.

The snowfall affected travel on major corridors including Interstate 76 (Pennsylvania Turnpike), I-79, I-80, and I-81, where drivers encountered snow-covered roads and reduced visibility overnight. While conditions have improved in some areas, untreated roads and secondary streets remain slick.

The NWS noted the map is preliminary and based on regional observations submitted by the public and official sources. Additional reports may refine totals throughout the day.

Residents are encouraged to submit snowfall reports directly to the National Weather Service to help improve accuracy. Forecasters say colder air moving in could allow snowpack to linger, increasing the risk of icy spots during overnight refreeze.

Drivers are urged to continue using caution, especially during early morning and evening hours.
