State College, PA – A snow squall warning has been issued for several counties in north-central Pennsylvania as a fast-moving band of intense snow threatens hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in State College, the warning remains in effect until 11:45 a.m. EST Wednesday for Cameron, Clinton, Elk, Lycoming, McKean, Potter, and Tioga counties. At 10:40 a.m., radar indicated the leading edge of the snow squalls moving southeast at 20 mph, producing heavy snow bursts and gusty winds exceeding 35 mph.
The squall is expected to impact St. Marys, Wellsboro, and Mansfield by 10:50 a.m., Ridgway and Truman by 11:00 a.m., and additional locations including Blossburg and Cedar Run by 11:30 a.m..
The National Weather Service urges drivers to reduce speed, turn on headlights, and avoid travel if possible. Visibility could rapidly drop to near zero in whiteout conditions, making highway travel especially dangerous. Motorists are advised to find a safe location away from traffic until the squall passes.
