Media, PA – The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about an ongoing phone scam in which callers impersonate deputies and demand money for fake legal issues, including jury duty no-shows.

According to a statement shared by the Sheriff’s Office on Monday, scammers have been spoofing the department’s phone number to make their calls appear legitimate. Victims are allegedly being told they must pay fines immediately to avoid arrest, with payment often requested through Bitcoin, PayPal, Venmo, gift cards or wire transfers.

The Sheriff’s Office stressed it will never call, text, or email residents to demand payments under threat of legal action. Officials also emphasized they will not request sensitive information or money to clear warrants or other legal matters.

Residents who receive such calls are advised to hang up immediately, avoid sharing personal information, and contact the Sheriff’s Office at (610) 891-4296 to verify any claims. Suspicious activity should be reported to local authorities.

The alert comes as scammers reportedly intensify their efforts during the holiday season, exploiting people’s trust and generosity.

The department is urging residents to spread awareness by sharing the warning with family and friends.
