State College, Pa. – Damaging winds and large hail are possible across Central Pennsylvania Friday evening as severe thunderstorms move through the region under a watch that remains in effect until 10 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in State College, Severe Thunderstorm Watch 263 now includes Clearfield County—home to Clearfield and DuBois—alongside 14 other counties already under alert. The storms could bring wind gusts up to 60 mph, frequent lightning, and quarter-size hail.
Cities including Altoona, York, State College, and Chambersburg are at risk through the evening commute and into nightfall. Power outages and tree damage are possible, especially in areas with saturated soil from earlier rains. Drivers should remain alert for water ponding on roads and sudden gusts, particularly on U.S. Routes 30, 322, and I-99.
Residents are urged to stay indoors during storms, secure loose outdoor items, and monitor local alerts. Charge devices and prepare for potential outages in case downed lines impact utilities.
The severe weather threat is expected to taper off by late evening, but more storm activity is possible over the weekend. Updates will follow as new watches or warnings are issued.
