Philadelphia, Pa. – Severe thunderstorms could slam parts of Pennsylvania with damaging winds, hail, and lightning through 8 p.m. Tuesday, prompting a widespread watch that covers more than two dozen counties from Philadelphia to Bradford.

According to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center, Severe Thunderstorm Watch 233 is in effect until 8 p.m. EDT. The alert includes key population centers such as Philadelphia, Allentown, Lancaster, and Scranton. Gusts up to 60 mph and quarter-sized hail are possible, along with isolated power outages and localized flooding in urban and low-lying areas.

Counties under the watch include Montgomery, Bucks, York, Dauphin, Chester, and Luzerne, among others. Commuters along I-76, I-80, and I-95 should expect sudden downpours and limited visibility. Outdoor activities and evening events may be disrupted across southeastern and central Pennsylvania.

Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, charge mobile devices, and remain indoors during thunderstorms. If driving, slow down and never drive through flooded roads.

Storm activity is expected to taper off after sunset, but additional alerts may follow if cells redevelop overnight. The National Weather Service will continue monitoring conditions across the region.
