State College, Pa. – Showers and isolated thunderstorms will drench much of central Pennsylvania through midweek, with up to an inch of rain possible in State College by Thursday night.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, rain begins overnight Monday and intensifies Tuesday, with a 100% chance of precipitation and gusty southeast winds up to 30 mph. The heaviest downpours are expected between Tuesday evening and late Wednesday, when embedded thunderstorms could produce locally higher rainfall amounts.

Residents in Centre, Clinton, and Clearfield counties should expect a soggy commute both Tuesday and Wednesday. Wind gusts may down small limbs or cause minor travel delays, particularly on U.S. Route 322 and I-99. While widespread flooding isn’t anticipated, poor drainage areas may see brief ponding during heavier bursts.

Outdoor activities and fieldwork may be disrupted through Thursday morning. Emergency managers recommend securing loose items, keeping storm drains clear, and using caution on slick roads. Umbrellas won’t be enough—expect sustained showers throughout the day and evening hours.

Conditions begin to improve Thursday afternoon, but a final round of thunderstorms is likely Thursday night into early Friday. Additional advisories may be issued if rainfall totals increase.
