Hazle Township, PA – Pennsylvania State Police are renewing their efforts this week in the search for answers regarding the 2018 disappearance of Travis Fanning, who went missing nearly seven years ago from Luzerne County.
According to Pennsylvania State Police Troop N in Hazleton, Fanning, then 30, was last seen on Thursday, November 15, 2018. He was reportedly dropped off by his father around noon at the Groceries Plus store on Vine Street, only blocks from their residence on North James Street in Hazle Township. Later that day, around 1:30 p.m., Fanning was seen at the Fine Wine and Good Spirits store located inside the Church Hill Mall in Hazleton.
Investigators said Fanning was allegedly seen again on the evening of November 16, 2018, at approximately 10:30 p.m., at the 15th Street Beer Barn on West 15th Street in Hazleton. Following this, no further confirmed sightings have been reported.
Items believed to belong to Fanning were later found on a wooded trail northeast of Hazleton Area High School, authorities said. Police have not confirmed whether foul play is suspected, but the case remains classified as an endangered missing person investigation.
Fanning is described as a white male, 5’10” tall, weighing 170 pounds, with blonde or strawberry hair and a beard and mustache. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt with a maroon hood, blue jeans, tan boots, and a black balaclava hat. He was also carrying a black backpack.
Authorities note that Fanning may have been suffering from schizophrenia at the time of his disappearance and may have been in need of medical assistance. A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to a resolution in the case.
