PITTSBURGH – Hofbräuhaus Pittsburgh enters their second weekend of Oktoberfest celebrations from 4 to 10 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19, and noon to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20 near the South Sides Slope neighborhood.

Hofbräuhaus Pittsburgh is a brewery that specializes in authentic Bavarian beer. The brewery offers dark wheat, light, premium, top, and bottom fermented lagers. A full body golden lager brewed from pure water, malt, and hops is the preferred beer for the festival.

Steve Grkman and his band kick off the festivities with traditional European music at 4 p.m. Friday and provide live music throughout the festival. Grkman’s band will also start festival celebrations next week on Friday, Sept. 26.

Attendees can look forward to strolling magicians, face painting, balloons, singalongs, and a community Biergarten.

Oktoberfest, also known as the Munich Bier Festival, is an annual global festival celebrating German culture and American-German traditions. Although residents celebrate the festival in a variety of ways, Oktoberfest always means connecting to a larger community through a big party.

“We believe that Oktoberfest is a chance to bring the neighborhood to life with the sights, sounds, and flavors of Bavaria each fall,” Hofbräuhaus Pittsburgh said. “The event brings together locals and visitors alike to share laughter, music, and shared tradition.”

Pittsburgh Oktoberfest celebrations practice gemeinschaft, the traditional Bavarian concept of togetherness through the fall.

Oktoberfest at Penn Brewery, the Pennsylvania Bavarian Oktoberfest in Canonsburg, and VOktoberfest, a vegan alternative to the festival hosted by Velum Fermentation, will also begin in the following weeks. Oktoberfest in Downtown Pittsburgh, the largest celebration in the city, is from Oct. 2 to 12. The festival includes a ferris wheel, a keg tapping ceremony, and a stein holding competition.
