Cleveland, OH – Drivers across northeast Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania are urged to use caution tonight as a Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect through 7 a.m. Monday, with periods of heavy snowfall and hazardous travel conditions continuing into the overnight hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, localized lake effect snow bands will persist this evening, producing additional accumulations of 1 to 4 inches, depending on location. The heaviest snowfall is expected south of Interstate 90, particularly in northwest Pennsylvania.
In Pennsylvania, the warning includes Crawford County and both Northern and Southern Erie counties, impacting communities such as Erie, Meadville, Titusville, Edinboro, Corry, and Union City. Snowfall rates may briefly become intense within narrow bands, significantly reducing visibility.
Across Ohio, the warning covers Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, Ashtabula (inland and lakeshore), Lorain, Medina, Summit, and Portage counties, including major population centers such as Cleveland, Akron, Lorain, Elyria, Mentor, Painesville, Kent, and Ravenna. Forecasters say some inland areas could see up to 3 inches of additional accumulation before snow gradually weakens overnight.
The National Weather Service warns that snow-covered roads and sharply reduced visibility will make travel difficult this evening, especially on untreated roads and during bursts of heavier snow.
Transportation officials in both states strongly recommend delaying unnecessary travel. Motorists are encouraged to check www.ohgo.com in Ohio and www.511pa.com in Pennsylvania for the latest road conditions and restrictions.
Residents who must travel should keep emergency supplies in their vehicles, including a flashlight, food, and water.
