Pennsylvania — Damp pavement and low clouds are already settling over Pittsburgh, and a brief rain-to-snow mix could develop by late evening, creating slick spots just as temperatures dip toward freezing.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered showers increase after 10 a.m. today with a 30% chance of precipitation. By evening, colder air may mix rain with light snow before tapering off, while temperatures fall to around 33°F.

Across Allegheny County, including Pittsburgh, Mount Lebanon, and Penn Hills, roads like I-376, I-279, and Route 28 could turn briefly slick during the transition period. While accumulation remains minimal, timing during the evening travel window could slow traffic. Plan extra time and watch bridges closely.

Conditions improve quickly Tuesday with mostly sunny skies, but highs only reach 44°F. Gusty northwest winds up to 22 mph will add a biting feel. By early Wednesday, temperatures drop to near 27°F, raising concern for refreezing on any leftover moisture.

That cold snap doesn’t last long. Sunshine dominates Wednesday with a rebound to 62°F, followed by even warmer air pushing highs near 69°F Thursday and into the mid-70s by Friday.

Meteorologists note this sharp swing from wintry mix to spring warmth is typical for early April, but it can catch drivers off guard during freeze-thaw cycles.

Are roads slick where you are this evening?
