Pennsylvania – Headlights reflect off wet pavement across Pittsburgh this morning as temperatures hover at 32 degrees and pockets of freezing rain create a thin glaze on bridges and overpasses. Elevated stretches of I-376, I-279, and Route 28 could turn slick with little warning during the early commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, isolated areas of light freezing rain are possible early this morning across Allegheny County and surrounding parts of western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, and northern West Virginia. Even a light glaze can create hazardous travel, especially on untreated surfaces. Temperatures are expected to rise steadily through mid-morning, reducing the ice threat.

Rain becomes more consistent through the day with highs climbing to 55 degrees. Winds shift southwest this afternoon, helping push readings well above freezing. Still, drivers should remain cautious on shaded roads and ramps where slick spots may linger.

Midweek turns milder and wetter. Highs reach 58 Wednesday with rain likely at times. By Thursday, temperatures surge to 68 degrees with additional rain and even a rumble of thunder possible. Friday warms further to 72 degrees with only scattered showers.

This is classic March whiplash. Ice in the morning, spring warmth by week’s end.

Clocks spring ahead at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 8. Longer daylight arrives as a broader warm spell expands into early next week. The 6–10 day outlook favors above-normal temperatures across the Ohio Valley.
