Pennsylvania – The morning air feels unusually warm across Pittsburgh, with temperatures already near 63°F under partly clear skies. That calm start won’t last long. Storms are expected to build quickly later today as a cold front moves across western Pennsylvania.
Meteorologists are now tracking a developing line of showers and thunderstorms expected to reach the Pittsburgh area later this afternoon. The Storm Prediction Center has placed the region under a Slight Risk for severe weather, meaning a few storms could intensify rapidly.
Damaging wind gusts remain the primary concern. Some storms may also produce hail or isolated tornadoes, though those risks remain lower. Brief heavy rain could develop within stronger storms, creating localized flooding on already damp ground.
Drivers along I-376, I-79, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-76) should prepare for changing conditions later today. Visibility can drop quickly in downpours. Wet pavement may lead to slower travel and sudden braking conditions.
Expect storms to move through by evening before gradually weakening overnight. Conditions improve Sunday as clouds break and cooler air settles into the region.
After the front passes, a stretch of pleasant early-spring weather returns. Sunshine dominates Monday with highs around 70°F across Pittsburgh. Temperatures warm again Tuesday into the low 70s, continuing the mild March pattern spreading across the eastern United States.
Another big seasonal change arrives early Sunday morning when Daylight Saving Time begins at 2 a.m. Clocks move forward one hour, bringing longer daylight evenings and the first real hints of spring.
Meteorologists are also monitoring a wetter pattern returning midweek with another round of rain possible by Wednesday.
