Pennsylvania – Warm March air is sweeping across western Pennsylvania this morning, and the calm skies over Pittsburgh will not last long. Temperatures are already climbing quickly toward 68°F, an unusually warm start before a sharp weather turn arrives.

The morning begins partly sunny with light winds. That quiet stretch fades as stronger winds develop through the afternoon. Gusts could reach 36 mph, rattling loose branches and pushing clouds quickly across Allegheny County.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a powerful cold front moving east will trigger showers and thunderstorms late tonight into Monday morning. Some storms could produce damaging wind gusts near 40 mph, especially as the front approaches western Pennsylvania.

Drivers along I-376, I-79, and the Parkway East should prepare for wet pavement and shifting wind conditions during the morning commute. Visibility may briefly drop in heavier downpours.

Temperatures remain mild early Monday, reaching near 61°F, but colder air quickly arrives behind the front. Rain continues through the day and may mix with snow Monday night as temperatures tumble toward 22°F.

By St. Patrick’s Day Tuesday, the pattern flips completely. Clouds linger and scattered snow showers become possible around Pittsburgh. Temperatures struggle to reach 32°F, and brisk winds could create slick spots where moisture freezes on bridges and overpasses.

Conditions settle slightly by midweek. Wednesday remains mostly cloudy with highs near 42°F, while Thursday brings a milder rebound toward the mid-50s.

Long-range signals point to a larger warming trend later next week as spring gradually pushes into the Ohio Valley.

If you’re commuting across western Pennsylvania today or Monday, expect rapidly changing weather. Are winds already picking up in your neighborhood this morning?
