Warren, Pennsylvania – Drivers across north-central Pennsylvania and western New York are facing a dangerous and fast-moving snow squall Saturday evening, bringing near-whiteout conditions and rapidly deteriorating road safety.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, a Snow Squall Warning remains in effect for Elk, McKean, and eastern Warren counties through early evening as an intense line of heavy snow pushes east at around 30 mph. Wind gusts over 35 mph are causing blowing snow, with visibility dropping below a quarter mile within minutes.

The squall is impacting major travel corridors including Route 6, Route 62, Route 219, and State Roads 59, 66, 120, and 255. Communities such as Warren, Bradford, Kane, Ridgway, and Johnsonburg are seeing sudden bursts of heavy snow that can instantly coat roads and trigger chain-reaction crashes.

Farther north, the National Weather Service in Buffalo issued a similar Snow Squall Warning for parts of western New York, including Monroe, Genesee, Livingston, Orleans, Wyoming, and Ontario counties. Interstate 90 and Interstate 390 are among the most vulnerable routes as the squall races east at 35 mph, affecting the Rochester metro and surrounding towns.

Officials urge drivers to delay travel if possible. Snow squalls offer little warning, and there is no safe place to stop on a highway once whiteout conditions hit. Additional advisories may be issued as the system continues east through the evening.
