Harrisburg, PA – The National Weather Service has issued High Wind Watches across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, including Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont, from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning.

Forecasters warn of west to northwest winds 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 60–65 mph possible across higher terrain and ridge tops. The watches extend from central and northern Pennsylvania — including State College, Williamsport, and Altoona — through eastern New York, northern New Jersey, and into southern New England.

According to the National Weather Service offices in State College, Mount Holly, Albany, Binghamton, and New York City, damaging gusts are most likely to occur Wednesday evening into early Thursday, with isolated gusts above 60 mph possible within thunderstorms.

The strongest winds are expected between 6 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. Thursday, impacting major metro areas from Harrisburg to Allentown, Scranton, and New York City, as well as coastal Connecticut and western Massachusetts.

Officials warn that falling trees and power lines could cause widespread outages, while travel may be hazardous, particularly on I-80, I-81, I-87, and I-95 corridors. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge electronic devices, and avoid unnecessary travel during peak winds.

Wind conditions are expected to gradually improve by Thursday afternoon as the system moves east.
