Philadelphia, PA – A wintry system will move into eastern Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey early Tuesday, bringing a mix of snow, sleet, and light ice that is expected to create slippery travel conditions during the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, multiple Winter Weather Advisories are in effect beginning 4 a.m. Tuesday, covering Warren, Morris, Hunterdon, and Sussex counties in New Jersey, as well as Berks, Lehigh, Northampton, Upper Bucks, Western Montgomery, Western Chester, Carbon, and Monroe counties in Pennsylvania.
Most locations across northwest New Jersey and the Lehigh Valley are expected to receive up to 1–2 inches of snow with a light glaze of ice. Higher-elevation areas of Carbon and Monroe counties—including Stroudsburg and Jim Thorpe—may see 3–5 inches of snow, with isolated totals reaching 6 inches before mixing transitions occur.
According to the NWS, precipitation will begin before sunrise and continue through late morning or early afternoon. Roads may become slick quickly as light freezing rain mixes with snow, particularly on bridges, overpasses, and untreated surfaces. Both the Tuesday morning and early evening commutes could be affected in Sussex, Carbon, and Monroe counties, where precipitation is expected to linger longest.
Communities including Allentown, Easton, Reading, Flemington, Morristown, Perkasie, Pottstown, and Stroudsburg should prepare for slower travel, reduced visibility, and icy patches well into midday.
Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra time, and use caution. Road conditions for New Jersey and Pennsylvania can be monitored via 511 services in each state.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve by late afternoon, though some elevated and shaded areas may remain slick.
