Philadelphia, PA – Drivers and residents across the Mid-Atlantic should brace for another round of drenching rain and scattered thunderstorms through Thursday, with some areas facing up to 3 inches of rainfall by Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service’s Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center, a nearly stationary front will fuel periods of showers and storms from eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey to eastern Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware. Locally heavy downpours are most likely during the afternoon and evening hours today and again on Wednesday.
While widespread river flooding is not anticipated, some streams and low-lying roads could see rapid rises where the heaviest rain falls, especially near Philadelphia, Baltimore, Wilmington, and Trenton. Commuters are urged to watch for ponding on highways like I-95 and the New Jersey Turnpike. Residents in flood-prone neighborhoods should check drains and prepare for brief power outages due to storms.
This pattern is typical of humid July weather, but the extended period of wet conditions could slow travel, disrupt outdoor plans, and delay some construction projects regionwide.
Rain chances remain elevated into early Friday. Additional advisories may be issued if rainfall rates increase or storms become severe.
