Pennsylvania – A biting breeze sweeps across the Delaware River this morning, and the pavement along I-95 still looks damp from recent melt. Temperatures hover in the 30s, and that thin sheen of moisture could turn icy fast after sunset.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, Philadelphia sits near 34°F late this morning with northwest winds between 10 and 15 mph. Highs reach the mid-30s under partial sun. Skies clear further Friday with a high near 36°F, but cold air settles in quickly by evening. Lows dip to 24°F, cold enough to refreeze any standing water.
That sets the stage for a classic February flash-freeze setup. If sidewalks or side streets stay wet, icy patches may form before the Monday commute. Slow down on bridges and ramps, especially along I-76 and the Schuylkill Expressway.
Valentine’s Day Saturday brings brighter conditions and a high near 43°F. It will feel milder, though morning temperatures remain below freezing. Sunday turns more unsettled. A 30% chance of rain and snow develops after midday, increasing to 50% Sunday night. With temperatures near 32°F, a slushy mix is possible across Philadelphia and nearby South Jersey.
Plan extra time if traveling Sunday evening. Conditions may deteriorate quickly after sunset.
Looking ahead, NOAA’s 6–10 day outlook signals above-normal temperatures building across the East. Highs could push into the upper 40s and even low 50s by midweek. A broader U.S. warmup may send parts of the central states 10 to 20 degrees above average.
