Light snow showers and flurries will continue across parts of eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey today, with additional snow moving into northern areas later this afternoon and tonight, according to the National Weather Service in Philadelphia/Mount Holly.

NWS officials report a slight chance of flurries or light snow through mid-morning, followed by partly cloudy and chilly conditions across much of the region. High temperatures today will remain below freezing north and west of Interstate 78, while areas farther south, including Philadelphia, Wilmington, and Atlantic City, climb to around 40 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service, more snow showers are expected to develop across northern areas late this afternoon, continuing southeastward tonight into New Year’s Eve. For most locations, snowfall amounts will be a dusting at most, but the Poconos and adjacent areas of far northwest New Jersey could see 1 to 2 inches of accumulation by early New Year’s Day.

Road impacts are most likely along Interstate 80, Interstate 476, Route 33, and Route 209, particularly in higher elevations where temperatures remain near or below freezing. Brief reductions in visibility are possible during heavier snow showers, especially tonight.

Urban corridors including I-95, I-76, and the New Jersey Turnpike are expected to see little to no accumulation, though brief snow showers could still cause slick spots on bridges and ramps late tonight.

The National Weather Service notes that snow showers should taper off from northwest to southeast overnight, with lingering clouds into early Thursday. New Year’s Day (Thursday) will remain chilly but quieter, with no significant additional accumulation expected.

For commuters, service workers, and New Year’s Eve travelers, the main concern will be localized slick travel in northern and higher-elevation areas, while most metro locations see minimal impacts.
